William Martin served in the Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee legislatures, was a Presidential elector in 1804 and 1808 as well as vice president of the Whig Convention of 1844. In the War of 1812, Martin was elected Lieutenant Colonel of the Second Regiment of Tennessee Volunteers.
